MEET

I’m Peter Browning, a dedicated public servant with a diverse background in health and business, running for re-election as County Commissioner District 2. With over 30 years in Skagit Valley, my extensive experience and commitment to the community make me the ideal candidate to continue improving our county.

Doing the work, getting results.

MY

Priorities

I am running for re-election because I am committed to Skagit County and its people. I don’t have other loyalties.

Here are some of my priorities:

FLOOD RISK PREVENTION

With the Skagit being a powerful river, it poses tremendous flood risk to our cities and infrastructure. My goal is to continue working closely with Skagit Treaty tribes, to ensure safe flood control is in effect.

GROWTH MANAGEMENT & AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Due to great population growth, affordable housing has decreased and homelessness has increased. My goal is to address these challenges to create affordable housing options within our cities.

CLIMATE CHANGE & A LOCALLY-LED INTEGRATED PLAN

Our community has some of the best farmland. And to protect it, my focus is to address sea level rise and climate change, to enhance habitat and preserve.

HOMELESSNESS, MENTAL HEALTH, & SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER

As a career public health professional, these issues at the center of my thinking and action. Since the last election, many efforts have been put in place to make progress with these issues.

EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT OF SKAGIT COUNTY

Improving county government’s performance and efficiency has been a big priority. Many efforts have already been implemented to help this, but I look forward to more plans to increase this.

FISH PASSAGE AT SEATTLE CITY LIGHT’S DAMS

To help increase salmon populations, a priority of mine is to advocate for fish passage at Skagit dams. This will help support Skagit tribes in their fight for environmental justice in helping maintain salmon populations.

I have the leadership ability, experience, and judgment to deliver results. I respectfully ask for your support.

THE REASON WHY

I Am An Independent
For The Skagit Valley

My years of experience in both government and business has taught me that the best results come when we honestly consider all voices. When I ran for Skagit County Commissioner in 2020, I chose to run as an Independent. I made that decision because I stand for the Skagit, first and foremost. Running as an Independent means asking for your support and your vote on the strength of my record and ideas rather than party affiliation. It also means listening carefully to ideas from both dominant political parties, focusing on what will produce the best results for our community.
