Why I Am An Independent For The Skagit Valley

My years of experience in both government and business has taught me that the best results come when we honestly consider all voices.

Political partisanship has increasingly come to mean attacking our friends and neighbors and rejecting their ideas without considering them.   Allegiance to political parties also seems to mean new plans and ideas for the Skagit every four years, depending on who holds power in Washington D.C., and Olympia.

But the unique challenges we face as a community require thinking and planning Seven Generations ahead, centering the issues that matter at the local level.

When I ran for Skagit County Commissioner in 2020, I chose to run as an Independent. I made that decision because I stand for the Skagit, first and foremost.

Running as an Independent means asking for your support and your vote on the strength of my record and ideas rather than party affiliation. It also means listening carefully to ideas from both dominant political parties, focusing on what will produce the best results for our community.

In the pages that follow, you’ll find a detailed discussion of some of our successes over the last four years, and my policy views on key local issues.
